Shimla, January 2012: CHILDLINE Shimla, with support from Shimla Police, District Administration rescued 8 bonded labourers from the custody of pony owners operating in Mahasu peak, Kufri. The existence of bonded labour is an affront to basic human dignity. In India, bonded labour enacted has been illegal since 1976 when Parliament of India the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act. However, the practice of paying back a loan or advance with work, not money is still widespread.
