CHILDLINE 1098 Service > Bihar Needs Your Help

16.5 % of the total flood affected area of the country, is in Bihar. A sudden breach in the eastern embankment of the Kosi River in North Bihar on 18th August 2008, has resulted in the River changing its course and causing destruction in 15 districts in Bihar. More than 2.5 million people have been affected - lost their families, their belongings and their source of earning - land. Roads have been damaged and the supply of water and electricity in the have been seriously disrupted in the affected districts. Railway tracks have been submerged and essential commodities, including food, are being transported by boats. They are in need of basic amenities, facilities and medical attention.

Our CHILDLINE service has been functioning in the districts of Sitamarhi, Darbhanga, Kishanganj and Purnea. Through the relief camps set up by the government or NGOs, our team members there, with the help of volunteers, will be assisting relief activities and child tracking.

Our team there has identified the following urgent requirement

Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS)
Glucose (Glucon D)
Glucose Biscuits
Milk Powder
Anti Bacterial Soaps
Tumblers or Stainless steel glasses

It is time to organize resources both cash and kind urgently. We appeal to your generosity to help us reach out to those who have lost everything except their hope for some kind of miracle.
